Why teach multiples
The game helped the students to make a number and easily understand factors of that number. They recognized multiples of each number quickly. This game helped in peer teaching and learning within the group. It was a very good game to re-inforce the concept of multiples.
Assessment : I asked the students in both teams to write the work in their notebooks. As one team rolled the dice, the other team was working out in their notebook to know whether it was right or not. While doing the activity, the team helped those who were struggling to get the answer.
I also encouraged the teams to work out and find the answer. It worked well in my class but if needed, teachers could change the activity. In Year 5 , children will continue to carry out tasks involving factors and multiples and this will extend to learning about prime numbers and square numbers.

By Year 6 children need to be really confident not only on knowing what factors and multiples are, but also on quickly working out the factors and multiples of various numbers. They might able be asked to find the lowest common multiple or highest common factor of two numbers or a group of numbers. You can also figure out multiples by making your own sets with anything you can count. For example, you can make sets of three candies to figure out the multiples of three. See the examples below:.
