First one: If you stay with Trude and John at Bethells Beach Cottages you have the devine access through a private track. You can go to the beach through the walking track of Xena's beginning of Ulysses. Yep, from the start you go in the Xena footsteps.

And then enjoy the beach with its numberous places of Xena episodes. Second one : Take your car and take direction Swanson. From Universal road take Swanson Road. Keep driving straight ahead and the road changes into Scenic Drive.

Scenic drive will take you also to other directions. At Scenic drive take right into Te Henga Road. Keep on driving straight ahead. Road changes into Bethells Road. You will pass 2 little bridges. Second bridge is the one where your track starts to Wainamu Lake and Dunes. But keep on driving and you end at the parking place of the surf club. From the surf club you have direct access to Bethells Beach aswell and you are immediate on the place where Caesar paid Xena his ransom in Destiny.

From there you have at your left a total look out over Bethells Beach. A lot of fun, and I highly recommend heading out that way to any fans who find themselves in Auckland. More pictures are in my Auckland album.

The Auckland weather — does whatever it feels like doing. But on the west coast it very frequently is windy and cold, even on days when there are periods of sun. Renpics just had to shoot whenever they got the opportunity.

So, yes, the stars and the rest of the cast, and crew, and extras would have had to put up with some pretty awful conditions from time to time. If you really want to see some miserable rain conditions — Episode 1 of Sin Trade, the Deer River sequence — Lucy was magnificent in that scene.

But Bethells Beach itself and the stream and dunes were used more than any other outside location. I expect the film crew reached there by driving up through the paddocks on the eastern gently sloping side of the hill. It can be reached with a bit of effort from the western side by climbing up the very steep scrub-covered hillside from the Te Henga Track, and the top edge of the cliff is just outside the fenceline so in public land. Probably take a couple of hours return from Bethells. HI Jess, John and Trude are our friends and it is so nice to see that they assisted you with the Xena tour.

You made a very good blog of it. But I think you covered most of the locations. Lake Wainamu, well yes, a dive to the underworld is spectactual and I made it back each time. But every place where it was filmed remains a very interesting place. And when you have visited them, then you only understand how a masterpiece it was to film it in such a way that we had weekly movie show on TV.
